New Offering! Inspired Sessions | Seattle Family Photographer

I’m so excited to now offer INSPIRED SESSIONS! This is going to be really fun and I’m so excited to see what we create and to be inspired by you and the books + music that inspires you and your family. Read on to learn more about what I mean by Inspired Sessions and let me know if you’d like to book an inspired session for your family! This approach is a fun twist in preparation, a way to make your photographs so incredibly individualized and special for you and your people. It will be similar to my previous work, but I’m so certain it will be even better!

So here’s the story:

When my now 5 year old was a baby, there was this song that came on my pandora mix that always made me feel so deeply. It’s a piano solo by Dustin O’halloran. It is the song I think of when I ask parents to hold their babies and feeeeeel them. It’s the inspiration of images like this. Here’s a link to the song, I recommend listening to it and holding someone you love.

But it’s not just music that drives a lot of the imagery I envision. I used to be an elementary school teacher and I love books: the stories, the illustrations, there are so many gems out there. One of my favorite things to do with my kids is go to the library and get books. We read them for hours and hours. In the past few years, I kept finding myself thinking of images I wanted to create based on the stories and illustrations in books. Images like these:

This makes me think of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt By Michael Rosen:

And this one is from of Thunder Cake by the amazing Patricia Polacco:

Then there’s Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne:

And also Dear Girl, by Amy Krause Rosenthal:

And back to music! On the way to every single session I listen to a special playlist. It’s a kind of meditation to help me stay so deeply connected with why I do this work, this art. I get real deep thinking about much I love my own kids, how it’s so beautiful that they are here and so hard that time is passing and passing and how I want to slow it down and savor every single second. How I want to help others to low down, feel, and connect. Anyway, the music helps me process and leads me to some of the images I want to make like these:

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac:

Light by Sleeping at Last:

And To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra:

And of course Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan…I love Adele’s version too:

Or even this instrumental Bombom by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis:

So, there’s a sampling of how I use music and children’s literature to inspire me to create. Now I invite you to choose the song or book that helps guide our session.

So, what would this really look like?

It won’t be literal, nobody’s dressing up in bear costumes here (but oh my you totally can!). We’ll get to the heart of the inspired piece and connect it with what makes your family so incredibly special to guide the creation of some special images to honor this beautiful existence. Up to a month before your session, you’ll tell me the song or book you choose (here are some ideas). Then I’ll send you a Q+A that you and the whole family will fill out together- this will guide you to listen to the song or read the book and reflect on why it’s special to your family. I’ll use your reflection as well as the book/song to plan your session including location and possibly wardrobe to personalize our time together. Your session will be 1-2 hours and will be inspired by the works, but it will also have some classic portraits of each of human and all together. That’s it!

Please sign up for my mail list if you’d like to book a session in 2020…I’ll open up my schedule soon and I’d love to do an Inspired Session with you! And of course email me if you have any questions: hello@aneladeisler.com.

Much love,

Anela
