A Day In The Life, Day 20 Home During the Coronavirus Pandemic | Anela Deisler Photograph

And We’re Home

Grateful for these young ones that

keep it ever moving, leaving us so tired

so tired of the unknowning

tired of waiting to accept it all

waiting to hug, to sing together

without autoglitches in the software

holding firm to their joys

to our heath

to the cherry blossoms and chirps in the soft breezes

to the gratitude of those that are so busy, not getting to just wait.

Family taking new precedent, new meaning

all this newness

one may hope it will leave us wiser

but here we sit

we try, we play, we laugh, we cry

with the smell of bleach on our dry hands

unable to smile through the masks

searching for rainbows and teddybears

we take joy in the letters received from young friends

yoga with a favorite instructor, here in my room

teachers making life feel normal somehow for these kids

and we wait

as another empty bus drives by

with hopes that we’ll look back

with grace

for who we are right now,

in this strange collective moment together

apart.
